Eltra Carbon Water Analyzer CW-800M

Table of Contents

Eltra CW-800M Carbon is designed for fractional analysis of carbon and water in one single operation. It is based on the proven technology of the CW-800 but has a modified furnace that allows fast adjustment of the temperature in the furnace. Different fractions of carbon and water of the sample are analyzed by applying different furnace temperatures.

ELTRA’s CW-800M analyzer is designed for the precise, simultaneous determination of carbon (released as CO2) and water in lime, gypsum, and cement from trace level up to 100 % (depending on sample weight). Other sample materials include ores, soil, minerals, slags, and waste. Up to five temperature steps (“ramps”) can be programmed for each application.

The temperature levels and their duration are selectable. The maximum temperature is 1000°C. Depending on the application step, either O2 can be used as a furnace atmosphere (oxidation of the sample) or an inert gas like N2 or argon.

The detection system of ELTRA’s CW-800M is very sensitive, and reliable, and guarantees a long lifetime. It can be customized according to the user’s requirements. Two infrared cells can be combined independently and allow highly precise measurement of the released CO2 and H2O.

Function Principle

Operation of the CW-800M is simple and convenient. After weighing the sample in a quartz boat, it is placed on the loading mechanism of the furnace. In the following, the analysis can be started and the boat is introduced into the furnace by the user. Depending on a user-defined program, different temperatures and carrier gases are applied to the sample. While processing this program, the released CO2 and water is determined by the infrared cells. The received “chromatogram” of the sample subsequently shows different fractions of carbon and water of the sample. All data processing, control of the combustion process, and calculating of the result is done by an external PC. The duration of the measurement depends on the length of the user defined steps. A common analysis takes about 20 minutes.

About Eltra

The development of the first carbon and sulfur analyzer in 1981 marked the beginning of ELTRA’s success story 40 years ago. From day one, the focus was on the design of analyzers for the precise determination of C, H, N, O, and S element concentrations in solids.

Over the years, the product portfolio was further expanded and refined, for example by adding thermogravimetric analyzers in 2007. Our goal has always been to design combustion analyzers that are characterized not only by high precision and detection sensitivity but are also robust enough to provide reliable measurement results under rough conditions. The new generation of ELEMENTRAC analyzers impressively combines this claim with state-of-the-art technology and ease of use. The excellent price-performance ratio of our products together with our fast and reliable technical service helped ELTRA to continuously gain market share over the past four decades. Today, we are represented in more than 80 countries by a broad sales & distribution network.

In 2012, ELTRA became part of the VERDER Group and was integrated into the Scientific Division, which is home to renowned companies from the laboratory & analytical sector, including Retsch and Microtrac. Under the new management, substantial investments were made in new products and services for C/H/N/O/S elemental analysis and macro thermogravimetry. Customers in quality and analysis laboratories as well as research departments appreciate the speed, precision, and ease of use of our analyzers.

Our past experience and achievements motivate us to continue developing new analyzers. Securely positioned for the future, we will integrate new technologies into our portfolio which will allow us to conquer new markets over the next 40 years.
