Leuze Sensor DMU412B-500/LVT-M12 Ultrasonic distance sensor

A miniature M12-threaded ultrasonic sensor with a 500 mm sensing range and a standard M12 connector. The “LVT” designation indicates a Linear Voltage output with an integrated Teach-in function for easy calibration of the measurement window.

Description

The DMU412B series is designed for applications where space is extremely limited but high-accuracy distance feedback is required. By using ultrasonic Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology, it remains unaffected by the optical properties of the target—making it a reliable choice for detecting clear glass, liquids, or highly reflective metal surfaces.

Features

  • Analog Precision: Provides a 0–10 V DC signal that scales linearly with the measured distance, offering high-resolution feedback (approx. 0.1 mm).
  • Teach-in Capability (T): Features a dedicated teach-in input or button, allowing you to define the start and end points of the 0–10V scale to fit your specific application window.
  • Material Independent: Reliably detects “difficult” targets like water, clear plastic films, and multi-colored components.
  • Compact M12 Housing: One of the smallest industrial ultrasonic sensors available, allowing for integration into robotic grippers or dense machine manifolds.
  • Temperature Compensation: Automatically adjusts for changes in the speed of sound due to air temperature fluctuations, maintaining accuracy across the full 500 mm span.

Applications

  • Winding/Unwinding Control: Monitoring the diameter of small rolls of foil or paper to maintain constant tension.
  • Vial & Bottle Filling: Providing a constant 0–10V signal to monitor liquid levels in small containers or laboratory equipment.
  • Positioning of Small Parts: Providing feedback for the height of precision lift tables or the extension of small pneumatic actuators.
  • Thickness Measurement: Detecting the thickness of boards, plates, or components by measuring the distance to the top surface.
  • Loop Control: Monitoring the “slack” or loop depth in narrow-width processing machinery.
