Leuze Sensor DMU230-6000/LA-M12 Ultrasonic distance sensor

A long-range M30-threaded ultrasonic sensor with a 6000 mm (6-meter) sensing range and a standard M12 connector. It provides a 4–20 mA analog current output, making it ideal for long-distance level monitoring or large object detection

Description

The “DMU230” series is engineered for demanding environments where distance and reliability are paramount. The LA designation signifies a Linear Analog (Current) output. It converts the measured distance into a 4–20 mA signal, which is the industry standard for long-cable runs because it is highly resistant to electromagnetic interference (EMI) compared to voltage signals.

Features

  • Extended Range: Capable of measuring up to 6 meters, suitable for large silos, warehouses, and outdoor infrastructure.
  • 4–20 mA Current Loop: Provides a stable analog signal that can travel long distances to a PLC without signal degradation.
  • Large M30 Housing: The larger diameter housing accommodates a high-power transducer necessary for long-range pulse emission and echo reception.
  • Material Independent: Reliably detects “difficult” targets like bulk solids, wastewater, or large metal plates regardless of color or transparency.
  • Integrated Temperature Compensation: Automatically adjusts for changes in air temperature to maintain accuracy over the full 6-meter span.

Applications

  • Silo & Tank Level Monitoring: Measuring the fill level of grain, pellets, or liquids in large storage vessels.
  • Vehicle Detection: Used in car washes, toll booths, or loading docks to detect the presence and position of trucks or cars.
  • Wastewater Management: Monitoring water levels in open channels or sumps without contacting the corrosive medium.
  • Roll Diameter: Measuring the size of very large paper or steel coils in primary manufacturing.
  • Collision Avoidance: Providing distance feedback for overhead cranes or large mobile equipment.
