Leuze Sensor DMU218-800/LV-M12 Ultrasonic distance sensor

Short Description: A standard M18-threaded ultrasonic sensor with an 800 mm (0.8-meter) sensing range and an M12 connector. It provides a continuous 0–10 V analog voltage output, allowing a controller to track the exact distance to a target in real-time.

Description

The DMU218 series utilizes ultrasonic Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology to calculate distance by measuring the time it takes for a sound pulse to bounce off an object. Because it uses sound waves rather than light, it is ideal for detecting targets that typically “confuse” optical sensors, such as clear glass, liquid surfaces, or highly reflective metal.

Features

  • Analog Precision: Delivers a 0–10 V DC signal that scales linearly with the measured distance, offering high-resolution feedback (approx. 0.1 mm to 0.2 mm).
  • M18 Industry-Standard Housing: Fits easily into existing machine apertures and standard mounting brackets.
  • Material Independent: Reliably detects “difficult” targets like water, clear plastic films, and multi-colored components.
  • Internal Temperature Compensation: Automatically adjusts for variations in the speed of sound caused by air temperature changes, ensuring accuracy throughout the 800 mm span.
  • IP67 Protection: Fully sealed against dust and water ingress, suitable for high-speed industrial lines or washdown areas.

Applications

  • Winding & Unwinding: Monitoring the diameter of small-to-medium rolls (foil, paper, textile) to maintain constant tension.
  • Small-to-Medium Tank Level: Providing continuous feedback on the fill height of chemical containers or small hoppers.
  • Loop Control: Monitoring the “slack” or loop depth in narrow-width processing machinery to synchronize motor speeds.
  • Stack Height Monitoring: Ensuring a consistent height for processed parts or materials in automated assembly.
  • Positioning: Providing feedback for the height of lift tables or the extension of pneumatic actuators.
