Leuze Sensor DMU420B-500.3/LV-M8 Ultrasonic distance sensor

A compact, M12-threaded ultrasonic sensor with a 500 mm range and a standard M8 connector. It provides a continuous 0–10V analog output, allowing a controller (like a PLC) to know the exact distance to an object at all times.

Description

The “DMU” series utilizes ultrasonic Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology, making it immune to target characteristics like color, transparency, or high-gloss finishes. The LV designation signifies a Linear Voltage output, which scales the measured distance into a proportional voltage signal. This is ideal for applications requiring feedback on “how far” rather than just “is it there.”

Features

  • Analog Precision: Provides a 0–10 V DC output signal that corresponds to the target’s position within the sensing range.
  • Material Independent: Reliably detects clear glass, liquids, dark plastics, and multi-colored surfaces that often “blind” optical sensors.
  • Compact M12 Housing: The small diameter allows for installation in tight mechanical assemblies or dense sensor arrays.
  • High Resolution: Capable of detecting minute changes in distance, typically down to 0.1 mm or better depending on the controller’s resolution.
  • IP67 Protection: Fully sealed against dust and water ingress, suitable for washdown environments.

Applications

  • Tension/Loop Control: Monitoring the “sag” of a material web (foil, paper, textile) to adjust motor speed.
  • Fluid Level Measurement: Providing a constant 0–10V signal to represent the fill level of a small tank or container.
  • Diameter Measurement: Measuring the decreasing size of a supply roll to predict when it will run out.
  • Positioning: Providing feedback for the height of a lift table or the extension of a pneumatic cylinder.
  • Quality Control: Checking for the presence and correct height of components on an assembly line.
