Gastec H2S605E Hydrogen Sulphide Sensor

A lightweight controlled potential electrolysis $H_2S$ sensor designed for portable and semi-fixed gas monitoring. Weighing only 4g, it is significantly lighter than standard industrial sensors while maintaining high sensitivity.

Description

The H2S-605E operates on the controlled potential electrolysis principle. In this process, the potential of the working electrode is kept constant, allowing for the precise oxidation of $H_2S$ molecules. This chemical reaction produces an electrical current that is directly proportional to the gas concentration in the environment.

Measuring approximately 18.2 x 18.3 mm, its compact cylindrical design allows it to be used in “wearable” or pocket-sized detection devices without sacrificing the baseline stability required for life-safety applications.

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Ultra-Lightweight Design: At just 4g, it is one of Gastec’s lightest $H_2S$ sensors, enabling the design of highly portable, non-intrusive safety gear.
  • Controlled Potential Technology: Ensures a stable zero-point and high resolution, which is vital for detecting $H_2S$ at the low ppm levels required by modern health and safety standards.
  • Low Power Requirement: Optimized for use in battery-operated devices, extending the field life of portable monitors.
  • Rapid Response Time: Provides quick $T_{90}$ results, ensuring that workers are alerted to the presence of toxic gas almost immediately.
  • Miniaturized Form Factor: The small footprint allows for multi-sensor configurations in a single handheld device.

Maintenance and Replacement

The H2S-605E is a consumable part. Because the internal electrolyte and electrodes are subject to chemical depletion, regular testing is mandatory.

Technical Note: It is recommended to perform a bump test before each shift to verify sensor responsiveness. If the sensor fails to return to zero or shows a significant delay in responding to $H_2S$ test gas, it should be replaced. After installation, always perform a full span calibration to sync the new sensor with your monitor’s electronics.
