Gastec GHS-8AT-EX Hydrogen Sulphide Data Logger

An intrinsically safe, compact $H_2S$ data logger capable of recording gas concentrations over extended periods. The “EX” designation signifies its certification for use in Explosive Atmospheres (ATEX/IECEx), such as those found in sewers, manholes, and chemical processing plants.

Description

The GHS-8AT-EX utilizes a high-stability electrochemical sensor to detect $H_2S$ in ranges typically up to 100 ppm or 1000 ppm (depending on the specific sensor head installed). Its primary function is to remain in-situ (on-site) for days or weeks, logging gas levels at user-defined intervals. This data is then downloaded to a PC via an infrared (IR) or USB interface for trend analysis.

Its rugged design is optimized for the high-humidity, corrosive environments found in sewage systems. The device is often “hung” inside manholes or near scrubbers to identify “spikes” in gas levels that correspond to specific industrial discharges or temperature changes.

GASTEC

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Intrinsically Safe (Ex): Certified for use in Zone 0, 1, or 2 hazardous areas where explosive gas mixtures may be present.
  • Long-Term Data Logging: Can store thousands of data points, allowing for comprehensive profiling of gas behavior over 24-hour cycles or weekly trends.
  • Rugged & Waterproof: Designed with a high IP rating (typically IP66/67) to withstand the splashing and 100% humidity typical of wastewater infrastructure.
  • Interchangeable Sensor Heads: Allows for easier calibration and maintenance; users can swap pre-calibrated sensor heads to minimize downtime.
  • Compact Form Factor: Small enough to be deployed in confined spaces or attached to narrow piping.
  • Software Integration: Works with Gastec-specific software to generate graphs, calculate TWA (Time Weighted Average), and identify peak exposure events.

Applications

  • Wastewater & Sewage Monitoring: Deploying inside manholes to monitor $H_2S$ levels that lead to concrete corrosion (MIC – Microbiologically Induced Corrosion) and odor complaints.
  • Odor Control Evaluation: Testing the effectiveness of chemical dosing or carbon scrubbers by comparing “upstream” and “downstream” gas data.
  • Industrial Hygiene: Identifying specific times of day when workers might be at risk during various industrial processes.
  • Landfill Gas Monitoring: Tracking the migration and concentration of $H_2S$ at landfill boundaries.
  • Oil & Gas Refineries: Monitoring perimeter or process areas where $H_2S$ is a byproduct of refining.
