Gastec CO505E Carbon Monoxide Sensor

A robust controlled potential electrolysis $CO$ sensor optimized for fixed-point gas detection. It is a 75g component housed in a large-format body to ensure maximum accuracy and a service life of up to 3 years.

Description

The CO-505E operates on the electrolytic oxidation principle. As Carbon Monoxide gas enters the sensor, it reacts at a working electrode maintained at a constant electrical potential. This reaction generates a current directly proportional to the $CO$ concentration, allowing the monitor to provide highly accurate, linear readings.

The sensor’s physical size (50 x 75 x 35 mm) allows for a significantly larger electrolyte reservoir. This volume is critical for maintaining a stable zero-point and preventing the “drift” often caused by temperature fluctuations in large mechanical rooms or industrial spaces.

GASTEC

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Controlled Potential Electrolysis: Advanced technology that offers high sensitivity and precision, even at low $CO$ levels.
  • Large Electrolyte Reservoir: The 75g mass ensures the sensor remains stable over years of continuous operation, reducing the frequency of required calibrations.
  • High Selectivity: Specifically tuned to detect Carbon Monoxide while minimizing cross-sensitivity to other common gases like Hydrogen ($H_2$) or Methane ($CH_4$).
  • Linear Response: Provides a consistent electrical output across its entire measurement range, simplifying the calibration process for the host instrument.
  • Rugged Housing: The sealed rectangular body is built to withstand the ambient conditions typical of industrial air monitoring.

Maintenance and Replacement

Because the CO-505E is an electrochemical sensor, it is a consumable part. As the internal chemical reagents are used up, the sensor’s sensitivity will naturally decline.

  • Polarization Time: When installing a new CO-505E, the detector must be powered on for 12 to 24 hours to allow the sensor to “polarize” and stabilize before you perform the final span calibration.

  • Signs of Failure: If your monitor displays a “Sensor Error,” cannot be zeroed out in fresh air, or fails to respond to test gas, the sensor has likely reached its end-of-life and requires replacement.
