Gastec CM-9A Carbon monoxide detector

A handheld, battery-powered gas detector featuring an internal sampling pump and a high-range electrochemical sensor. It is engineered to provide fast, direct-reading measurements of $CO$ in environments where concentrations might exceed standard ambient safety levels.

Description

The CM-9A utilizes a high-stability electrochemical sensor. The integrated diaphragm pump draws air samples through a probe, allowing for “active” monitoring. While many $CO$ detectors are limited to 500 ppm, the CM-9A is often scaled for higher industrial peaks (up to 1000 ppm or more in some configurations), providing a linear output even in heavily contaminated zones.

A standout feature of the 9A series is its improved LCD interface, which often provides more detailed “Peak” and “Average” data, essential for technicians who need to document $CO$ exposure levels over a specific work shift or during a furnace combustion cycle.

GASTEC

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • High-Volume Suction Pump: Powerful enough to draw samples through long extension hoses or stainless steel probes for high-temperature flue gas testing.
  • Extended Detection Range: Capable of measuring $CO$ from 0 up to 1000 ppm (or 2000 ppm depending on the specific sensor module), making it suitable for both ambient safety and process checks.
  • Direct Digital Display: Shows real-time concentrations, battery life, and elapsed monitoring time.
  • Dual Alarm System: Includes a high-decibel audible buzzer ($>85$ dB) and bright red LEDs. Alarms are typically pre-set to 25 ppm (Warning) and 50–100 ppm (Danger).
  • Peak Memory & Data Hold: Allows the user to freeze a reading on the screen or recall the highest concentration encountered during the test.
  • Ruggedized Body: Designed with a protective rubber boot or high-impact plastic to survive drops on construction sites or in mechanical rooms.

Applications

  • Commercial Boiler Tuning: Measuring $CO$ in exhaust flues to ensure complete combustion and high fuel efficiency.
  • Industrial Forklift Monitoring: Checking for $CO$ accumulation in large warehouses or cold storage facilities using internal combustion engines.
  • Fire & Arson Investigation: Detecting high-level $CO$ pockets during the “overhaul” phase of a fire scene.
  • Steel & Coke Production: Monitoring areas where $CO$ is a byproduct of high-temperature metal processing.
  • Emergency Response: Equipping “Hazmat” or utility teams with a high-range tool for investigating reported gas odors or “sick building” syndromes.
