Gastec CO50AE Carbon Monoxide Sensor

A robust controlled potential electrolysis $CO$ sensor optimized for fixed-point gas monitoring. It is a 75g component housed in a large-format body to ensure maximum stability and a long service life of up to 3 years.

Description

The CO-50AE operates using the electrolytic oxidation method. Carbon Monoxide gas enters the sensor and reacts at a working electrode that is kept at a constant electrical potential. This reaction produces a current that is directly proportional to the $CO$ concentration, allowing the CM-525A monitor to provide accurate, linear readings.

Its physical design (50 x 75 x 35 mm) allows for a significantly larger electrolyte reservoir than what is found in portable “miniature” sensors. This extra volume is key to maintaining a stable zero-point and resisting “drift” caused by temperature or humidity fluctuations in large industrial spaces.

GASTEC

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Controlled Potential Electrolysis: Provides high sensitivity and precision, which is critical for safety-level monitoring in enclosed workspaces.
  • Large Electrolyte Reservoir: The 75g mass ensures the sensor remains stable over years of continuous operation, reducing the need for frequent recalibration.
  • High Selectivity: Engineered to be highly specific to Carbon Monoxide, minimizing interference from other common industrial gases like Methane ($CH_4$).
  • Linear Response: Offers a predictable electrical output across its entire range, ensuring that alarms trigger exactly when safety thresholds are reached.
  • Rugged Housing: The sealed rectangular body is built to withstand the ambient conditions typical of mechanical rooms, parking garages, and factories.

Maintenance and Replacement

The CO-50AE is a consumable component. As the internal chemical reagents are used up, the sensor’s sensitivity will naturally decline.

  • Polarization: After installing a new CO-50AE sensor into a CM-525A unit, you must leave the power on for 12 to 24 hours to allow the sensor to stabilize before performing the final calibration.

  • Signs of Failure: If the monitor shows a “Sensor Error,” fails to respond to test gas, or cannot be zeroed out in clean air, the sensor has reached its end-of-life.
