Gastec CO509E Carbon Monoxide Sensor

A robust controlled potential electrolysis $CO$ sensor designed for high-precision gas detection systems. It is a 77g component (when integrated) used in the GOC-200 to provide accurate, real-time measurements in the 0 to 300 ppm range.

Description

The CO-509E operates using the electrolytic oxidation principle. As Carbon Monoxide gas enters the sensor, it reacts at a working electrode maintained at a constant potential. This reaction generates a current directly proportional to the gas concentration, which the GOC-200 translates into a digital readout.

This sensor is part of Gastec’s heavy-duty analytical line, meaning it possesses a larger electrolyte reservoir than miniature portable sensors. This design provides superior baseline stability, allowing the device to monitor air quality for extended periods without significant “zero drift.”

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Controlled Potential Electrolysis: Advanced technology that provides high sensitivity and linear output across the entire measurement range.
  • Stable Baseline: Engineered to maintain a highly stable zero-point, which is essential for detecting low-level $CO$ build-up in buildings or industrial sites.
  • Enhanced Range: While its standard range is 0 – 300 ppm, it can provide service-level readings (enhanced range) up to 1999 ppm for emergency assessments.
  • High Selectivity: Specifically tuned to react with Carbon Monoxide while minimizing cross-sensitivity to other common gases like Hydrogen or Methane.
  • Industrial Durability: Built to operate reliably in a temperature range of -10°C to 40°C and humidity levels up to 90% RH.

Maintenance and Replacement

he CO-509E is a consumable electrochemical component. Over time, its sensitivity will decrease as the internal electrolyte and catalysts are exhausted.

  • Calibration: To ensure safety compliance, it is recommended to perform a span calibration every 6 to 12 months using a Gastec CK-2 or CK-10 calibration kit.

  • Sensor Lifespan: Typically lasts 2 to 3 years under normal operating conditions.

  • Installation Tip: After replacing a CO-509E sensor, the monitor must remain powered on for 12 to 24 hours to allow the sensor to polarize and stabilize before the final calibration is performed.
