Gastec CMF-D Carbon Monoxide Sensor

A high-capacity controlled potential electrolysis $CO$ sensor optimized for fixed-point gas monitoring systems. It weighs 22g and is engineered to provide a stable, long-term detection solution for industrial facilities.

Description

The CMF-D operates on the controlled potential electrolysis principle. Carbon Monoxide gas permeates the sensor’s membrane and undergoes an electrolytic oxidation reaction at the working electrode. Because the sensor maintains a constant electrical potential, the resulting current is highly linear and directly proportional to the gas concentration.

With dimensions of 30 x 45 x 22 mm, it provides a larger internal surface area for chemical reactions than portable sensors. This translates to superior zero-point stability, meaning the sensor is much less likely to “drift” or give false readings due to minor fluctuations in ambient temperature or humidity.

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Controlled Potential Electrolysis: Advanced electrochemical technology that ensures high sensitivity and precision, even at low ppm levels.
  • Extended Stability: The 22g mass and internal design allow for consistent performance over long periods, making it ideal for continuous 24/7 monitoring.
  • High Selectivity: Specifically tuned to react with Carbon Monoxide while minimizing interference from other gases like Hydrogen ($H_2$) or Methane ($CH_4$).
  • Linear Response: Provides a predictable electrical signal across the entire measurement range, simplifying the calibration process for the CM-4 or GOC-200 units.
  • Proven Longevity: Built with high-quality catalysts, offering a typical service life of 2 to 3 years in standard industrial environments.

Maintenance and Replacement

The CMF-D is a consumable part. Over time, the internal electrolyte is depleted and the electrodes lose their catalytic efficiency.

  • Polarization Requirement: When installing a new CMF-D sensor, the monitor must be powered on for at least 12 to 24 hours to allow the sensor to “warm up” (polarize) before you attempt a final span calibration.

  • Calibration Frequency: For safety compliance, it is recommended to perform a full span calibration every 6 to 12 months using a certified $CO$ calibration gas kit.

  • Signs of End-of-Life: If the monitor shows a “Sensor Error,” fails to respond to test gas, or cannot be zeroed out in clean air, the CMF-D sensor likely needs replacement.
