Gastec CO529E Carbon Monoxide Sensor

A lightweight controlled potential electrolysis $CO$ sensor designed for high-precision portable monitors. Weighing approximately 20g, it provides a stable and fast-responding detection solution for the CM-9A unit.

Description

The CO-529E operates on the electrolytic oxidation principle. Carbon Monoxide gas enters the sensor and reacts at a working electrode maintained at a constant electrical potential. This reaction generates a current directly proportional to the gas concentration, which the CM-9A translates into a real-time digital readout in parts per million (ppm).

Despite its small size, it maintains the high resolution (typically 1 ppm) and baseline stability required for professional-grade safety equipment, allowing for accurate detection even of faint amounts of $CO$.

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Controlled Potential Electrolysis: Advanced electrochemical technology that provides superior sensitivity and linear output across the entire measurement range.
  • Miniaturized Form Factor: Specifically designed to fit the internal architecture of the CM-9A, which weighs only 60g in total.
  • Low Power Consumption: Optimized for battery-powered operation, supporting the long-term data logging capabilities of modern Gastec monitors.
  • Stable Zero-Point: Engineered to resist “drift” caused by ambient temperature changes, ensuring that the monitor remains accurate during all-day field use.
  • Fast Response Time: Provides rapid $T_{90}$ results, ensuring immediate alerts when CO levels exceed safety thresholds.

Maintenance & Replacement

The CO-529E is a consumable electrochemical part. Over time, the internal electrolyte is depleted and the catalysts lose efficiency.

  • Typical Lifespan: Approximately 2 to 3 years under normal operating conditions.

  • Calibration: It is recommended to perform a span calibration every 6 to 12 months using a Gastec CK-2 or CK-10 calibration kit.

  • Stabilization: After replacing the sensor in a CM-9A, allow the unit to remain powered on for at least 2 to 4 hours to stabilize (polarize) before conducting a final calibration.
