Gastec CO603E Carbon Monoxide Sensor

A miniature controlled potential electrolysis $CO$ sensor optimized for multi-gas portable detectors. Weighing 17g, it is built to provide stable and accurate detection of carbon monoxide in complex industrial environments.

Description

The CO-603E operates on the electrolytic oxidation principle. As $CO$ gas enters the sensor, it reacts at a working electrode maintained at a constant electrical potential. This reaction generates a current directly proportional to the gas concentration, which is then translated by the GOMHC-3A into a digital readout (typically in 1 ppm increments).

With its dimensions of 33 x 30 x 36 mm, it is slightly larger and more robust than the ultra-miniature CO-606E, providing the extra stability needed when integrated alongside other sensors (like Oxygen or LEL) in a multi-gas platform.

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Controlled Potential Electrolysis: Advanced electrochemical technology that ensures a highly stable zero-point and linear response across the measurement range.
  • Optimized for Multi-Gas Units: Specifically designed for the internal geometry and power requirements of the GOMHC-3A, ensuring reliable performance in combined gas detection scenarios.
  • High Stability: Its 17g mass provides better thermal and baseline stability than ultra-lightweight sensors, reducing the frequency of zero-drift in changing environmental conditions.
  • Fast Response Time: Features a rapid $T_{90}$ response, ensuring that the multi-gas monitor triggers alarms immediately upon detecting hazardous CO levels.
  • Linear Output: The sensor produces a predictable signal, making it straightforward to calibrate and ensuring accuracy throughout its service life.

Maintenance & Replacement

The CO-603E is a consumable part. Because it relies on chemical reactions, the internal electrolyte will eventually be depleted, usually after 2 to 3 years of service.

  • Bump Testing: It is highly recommended to perform a functional “bump test” before each day of use to verify that the $CO$ sensor and alarms in the GOMHC-3A are working correctly.

  • Calibration: Perform a span calibration every 6 to 12 months using a certified CO calibration gas kit (e.g., Gastec CK-2).

  • Sensor Replacement: If the GOMHC-3A displays a sensor error or fails to respond to test gas during a bump test, the CO-603E should be replaced.
