Gastec CMCD-200 Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide Detector

A dual-channel digital monitor that provides real-time concentration readouts for CO (0–500 ppm) and CO_2 (0–5000 ppm). It is an essential tool for identifying combustion issues and ventilation efficiency.

Description

The CMCD-200 utilizes two distinct sensing technologies:

  1. Carbon Monoxide: A controlled potential electrolysis sensor for high-sensitivity detection of toxic combustion byproducts.

  2. Carbon Dioxide: A Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) sensor, which is the industry standard for stable and accurateCO_2 measurement without the risk of sensor “poisoning” common in electrochemical cells.

The unit features a large, backlit LCD that shows both gas levels simultaneously. It includes a built-in data logging function, allowing technicians to record gas levels over time to identify trends in air quality or intermittent equipment failures.

GASTEC

Although, technology is always evolving, one demand on our products never changes: the demand for customer safety. Whenever we contribute to customer safety, we are presented with an opportunity to develop further.

GASTEC holds this corporate creed of safety and development in high esteem, as it strives to grow while always putting customer safety first.

Features

  • Dual-Gas Detection: Eliminates the need for separate monitors for CO and CO_2, streamlining the inspection process.
  • High-Precision NDIR Technology: The infrared CO_2 sensor ensures long-term stability and requires less frequent calibration than chemical alternatives.
  • Data Logging: Capable of storing thousands of data points for professional report generation and environmental analysis.
  • User-Selectable Alarms: Features adjustable alarm setpoints with audible and visual alerts to notify users when hazardous thresholds are crossed.
  • Compact & Ergonomic: Designed for one-handed operation with a rugged housing suitable for field use.
  • Temperature & Humidity Display: Many versions of this series also provide ambient temperature and RH% readings to give a full profile of indoor air quality.

Applications

Air Quality & Safety Assessment: The CMCD-200 is typically used for “walk-through” inspections or stationary monitoring.

  1. Initialization: Power on the unit in a clean, outdoor environment if possible. The NDIR sensor usually requires a brief warm-up period to stabilize the infrared source.
  2. Calibration: Perform a zero-point adjustment for CO in fresh air. For CO_2, the unit can often be “baseline calibrated” to the outdoor atmospheric average (approx. 400–420 ppm).
  3. Monitoring: Carry the device into the target area. The display will update in real-time as you move between different zones (e.g., near a boiler vs. in an office area).
  4. Reporting: Use the data logging feature to capture a 24-hour profile of a room’s ventilation, which is particularly useful for identifying “sick building syndrome.”
